AGA Cooking Tips

Your new AGA cooker may seem daunting, but it is actually the easiest cooker in the world to use. Take a look at these hints and tips for getting started on your AGA cooker.

CHICKEN

Roast chicken is a delicious and super-easy meal to make using your AGA. Simply place your chicken on a roasting tray, season as desired, with garlic, lemon, rosemary or your own preferred seasoning, and place in the roasting oven for about 45 minutes for 900g (2lb). You may choose to invest in a meat thermometer to ensure that chicken is cooked through before serving, as you get used to AGA cooking.

Chicken breasts can be cooked easily using a pan on the AGA boiling plate or on the induction hob, if you have an AGA cooker with this option.

EGGS

Fat-free fried eggs are something of an AGA speciality and are super-easy to make, delicious and don't require any washing up! Simply place Bake-o-Glide on to your simmering plate, crack your eggs and lower the lid until cooked.

Scrambled eggs are also an easy breakfast option. Beat your eggs in a jug with a little milk and season to taste, melt butter in a pan over the simmering plate and add your eggs. Keep stirring in the pan until cooked.

BREAKFAST

The AGA makes A full English breakfast effortless. All you need is a trusted roasting tin. Place a piece of Bake-o-Glide in a large roasting tin and place halved tomatoes, mushrooms and black pudding in the base. Place the sausages in the grill rack and place over the tin. Grill the sausages at the top of the roasting oven for 12 - 15 minutes, turn and add the bacon. Return to the top of the roasting oven for a further 10 minutes. Cook eggs as above or in small roasting tray lined with Bake-o-Glide at the floor of the roasting oven.

DROP SCONES

Also known as Scotch pancakes, drop scones can be cooked directly on the AGA simmering plate, a trick which impresses many non-AGA owners. Simply mix together 115g self-raising flour and 25g of caster sugar and whisk in 1 egg and 150ml milk. When the mixture is smooth, lightly oil the simmering plate and drop tablespoons of the batter directly on to the hotplate. Cook one side and flip to cook the other - these will be cooked in a matter of minutes.

PANCAKES

Cook on the simmering plate, either directly, greasing the simmering plate with a little oil or using a piece of Bake-o-Glide. 3. Cook for 2 mins or so and turn over once there are plenty of bubbles, cook the second side for a minute or so

RICE

As a general rule for cooking rice in the AGA, use one part rice to two parts water and season to taste. Bring to the boil on the boiling plate and then transfer to the simmering oven for around 30 minutes. If you need your rice to hold for longer, transfer to the warming oven.

PASTA

Like rice, first bring pasta to the boil in a pan of salted water on the boiling plate. You can then cover the pan and transfer the pan to the simmering oven for the time specified on the cooking directions on the pasta packet.

TOAST

One of the easiest things to cook on the AGA, toast makes a quick and easy breakfast or snack. Using an AGA toaster, place the bread on the boiling plate for a few minutes, flip, and then cook on the other side.
